"In the midst of the Covid-19 situation of April, 2020, I felt I should release another episode of my podcast. But what would I talk about? The Covid situation was the only thing anyone was talking about. What could I add to the conversation? Besides, it's a very polarizing topic. Whatever I said would probably upset someone.

So, instead, I dug through my file of lyrics and chords. If I found a song that caught my attention, I recorded myself singing and playing it on the keyboard. If the recording was good, I kept it. If it wasn't, I moved on after maybe a 2nd or 3rd try.

After around 5 hours, I'd finished all 24 songs in this collection, which I initially released as an episode of The Motern Media Infomercial Podcast until the good people at Happy Puppy Records offered to put it out for me. These are all live recordings. No overdubs. You can hear my kids screaming upstairs, and the washer / dryer running in the other side of the basement as I give some pretty impassioned performances.

I'm very pleased with the results. These are some of the songs that I'm most proud of. While I'm best known for having written 1000s of silly songs, I'd rather be known for writing these songs, which I think are full of insight and emotion.

If I'm lucky, someday these songs will be popular enough that I could fill up a small venue with people who would appreciate hearing them performed like this. Until then, any subsequent concerts like this will continue to happen in my basement."
